Oribe dishes on 2 Kates

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

Just got off the phone with hair god Oribe (think Jennifer Lopez and every super model and movie star. Ever.) who made me feel better about my lifelong bad hair day by telling me that Kate Winslet can't do much with her own hair. Cameron Diaz, however, can. The bitch. I'll have his candid comments on Victoria Beckham, Megan Fox, Jessica Simpson and others in the Pioneer Press next week. But I just have to share this one now: Kate Gosselin. All he knows about embattled "Jon & Kate Plus 8" star is "someone had an affair." But the hair? He likes it! "These days, it's all about being a character. Sexy in the front; crazy in the back. It suits her."
Oribe's new product line will be available at Spalon Montage in June.

Here come the knock-offs

Winsletdress
Adamscopy
Just days after the Academy Awards, copies of some of the stars' dresses are already in production and scheduled to hit stores before the prom rush. You can actually order now at eDressme.com. The choices might surprise you: eDressme is doing a version of the dresses worn by Kate Winslet and Amy Adams. eDressme CEO Joanne Stoner tells me she zeroed in on Kate Winslet's dark fitted gown because it was formal, unusual and modern with the one shoulder neckline. The Amy Adams dress, which was overshadowed on the red carpet by her mammoth necklace, "has universal appeal," Stoner says. The fitted bodice and fuller skirt is a flattering shape for most women, the chiffon draped in front gave the dress a feminine touch and red is a great choice for for formal affairs (just ask Heidi Klum). The dresses will sell for $375 and $325 respectively. Meanwhile, copies of the dresses worn by Angelina Jolie, Natalie Portman, Sarah Jessica Parker and Viola Davis are available for pre-order at Unique-Vintage.com.

Roland
Pamella Roland
must be the most down-to-earth A-list designer (credit her Michigan roots?). So far this awards season, you've seen her dresses on Emily Blunt and Jenna Fischer at the SAGs; and Amy Poehler and Jessica Carpenter at the Golden Globes. And you found out about it at the same time she did. Roland tells me she never knows whether star is wearing her dress until she seems them on the red carpet. Usually, their stylists pull dresses at the very last minute (actresses love the drama) and sometimes, without even informing the designer. Unless they need custom – like Queen Latifah. "She can't really jump into a sample size," says Roland, who has done a number of dresses for the rapper/actress.
"I hate to admit it, but it really does translate into sales," Roland told me on "Shop Girls." She's flattered when her dresses get knocked off.
So far this season, she thought Emily Blunt (pictured) looked "amazing." And Angelina Jolie, who she has dressed in the past, "very boring" in her drapey numbers. "I don't think she cares that much," Roland says. The star to dress at the moment: Kate Winslet.
But first, Roland has to get her son to hockey practice.
