See Rihanna’s…

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Jon Charles called me the other day sounding giddy, which is not an unusual state for the salon owner, who always has something cooking. Since famed stylist Oribe visited the Jon Charles Salon in Wayzata a few months ago (watch it here), the two have gotten quite chummy. And how do two fabulous salon men share there admiration? With a wig, of course! Not just any wig: Oribe has given Jon Rihanna’s wig, which the singer/cover girl wore in the April issue of Vogue. It’s now on display, in all it’s glory, at the Jon Charles Salon in Uptown. Quirky? For sure. But that’s what we love about Jon – he knows how to seize a Hollywood moment.

Oribe the Fabulous

Jon Charles, Oribe and me

“When I was styling Anne for the November cover…” That’s Anne as in Hathaway and cover as in Vogue. And that’s how Oribe grabs the attention of a room full of wide-eyed stylists – some of whom weren’t born when he was learning to tease wigs on Diana Ross. The legendary stylist, who has worked on every major magazine, with every important photographer and on every supermodel and A-list star from Kate Moss to Jennifer Lopez, swooped in to the Jon Charles Salon in Wayzata this week to educate staff on the Oribe product line, which the salon just picked up. Oribe demonstrated a few up-dos, like a variation on the “princess” ‘do he did for Anne. “Up dos can be so contrived – they’re aging. I wanted to take a young approach.” But despite all the fanfare and oohing and aahing at his every shake of the hairspray, Oribe keeps it real. “It’s a ponytail – pushed forward, with a fake piece in back and a couple pieces of crap in it. This is fun!”

Love is a good blowout

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Nothing says love like a good blowout. That's blowout – as in hair. Every girl loves one, and the always enterprising Jon Charles Salon is encouraging men to attend its popular Blow Dry Boot Camp for Valentine's Day. The salon says 10 brave gents have already signed on to learn how to style their loved one's locks. Lessons are available at the Uptown and Wayzata locations Friday, Feb. 12 to Sunday, Feb. 14. Bring your partner for the promotional price of $25. And guys, you'd better have a dinner reservation to follow: She's going to want to show off her new 'do, even if you can think of other things you'd rather do.
