B&Lu’s Plus Size News

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

Big news. Twin Cities-based plus-size fashion brand B&Lu is opening a boutique in Hopkins. The store will feature B&Lu’s affordable, trendy apparel, sizes 12 and up. From dresses to denim, no piece is more than $70.  Plus: the store will extend B&Lu’s brand into accessories – jewelry, scarves, shoes – and home furnishings. Owner Christine Sholl is bringing in inexpensive, re-purposed pieces, which she describes as “classic vintage farmhouse meets Parisian market whimsy.” Sholl plans to add regular size women’s clothes in the near future as well.

B&Lu will be open the first Thursday through Sunday of every month (and during select festivals and fairs) – starting today, July 7. The store is also available for private shopping parties. 1007 Main Street, Hopkins

Wanna buy a boutique?

Friday, December 3rd, 2010

Corset Boutique in Hopkins, which has established itself as a resource for styling services, extended sizes and wearable looks for real women, is up for sale. Owner Carrie Leum plans to stay in the image business, but she’s ready to step away from the day to day of retailing. Rather than close up shop, the enterprising Leum, principal of her own Leum PR Group, is searching for someone to take over the business.  Meanwhile, a sale is on now: 50 to 75 percent off storewide.

No longer on the fringe

Monday, April 20th, 2009

The former Melly space at 50th & France won't sit vacant for long. Hopkins accessories store Fringe plans to open a second location there on May 21. The focus will be the same: trendy accessories at affordable prices, but whereas the high end in Hopkins is $65, at 50th, a broader assortment will range from $15 to $150. This is Edina, after all. (I'm hoping they step up the ambiance a bit as well.)

Store openings

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

Last week, I promised the scoop on Baby Grand’s new store on Mainstreet in Hopkins and I have not forgotten…it’s just taking a bit longer to open than owners had hoped. The new target is this weekend. But call first. Meanwhile, swimwear shop Nani Nalu is frantically preparing for its move from Ridgedale Center to 50th and France on Feb. 1. The new shop promises an expanded selection and a few surprises – check back next week for that story. Then on Feb. 5, the folks behind Expecting Uber Baby will open their Uber Outlet (I’m getting a sneak peek this week, so I’ll let you know what to…expect.) And in March, Uber Baby will open at the Galleria with a new focus on children’s shoes. Then in April, Hot Mama heads west for its latest addition: a Wayzata store.

And we haven’t even hit spring! Lots more shopping news to come – and this is the place to find it first. Wondering about a specific store opening or what will become of a vacant store front in the Twin Cities? Let me know and I’ll try to get you the details.
