Girl Scout meets Gossip Girl in the Spring 2012 collection from Jil Sander Navy, the designer’s lower-priced line. Knee-length A-line skirts, bermuda shorts and buttoned up blouses were shown on the runway with ankle socks and shiny platform sneakers for a preppy look that is extremely wearable…especially in pieces. See for yourself–Jil Sander Navy is now available at Grethen House. (The average price point is $280). 4930 France Ave. S., Edina, 952-926-8725

You’ve got new goals, a new outlook and extra space in your clean closet (resolution 2012?). Now you need a new pair of jeans for a new year. Here are a couple of new lines you will want to wear next.
Mother Denim is a new luxury line from former execs at Citizens of Humanity and 7 For All Mankind. They’re going for classic appeal: The silhouette is high waisted, the colors are vivid, and the fabric is soft as cashmere. $170-$220, Grethen House, 4930 France Avenue, Edina

50th & France retailers are getting smarter about taking advantage of the Edina Art Fair crowd. (You’d think it would be a big weekend for stores, given the deluge of visitors, but actually, stores often suffer with all the commotion in front of their doors.) This year, they’re finding ways to entice us inside.

N’etc, for one, is hosting a k.h. designs trunk show featuring the two brand new lines by jewelry artist Karla Haugen including leather and crystal combinations as well as pearls, garnets and other materials strung and knotted on colored silk cord. Haugen is always a hit at Maiden Minnesota, but other than the Prior Lake Farmer’s Market, she rarely exhibits in the Twin Cities.
It also pays to stop in Grethen House for a big clearance sale. And check out Amore & Fede’s denim fashion show in the parking lot behind the store 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The Edina Art Fair takes over 50th & France June 4-6, but if you can scoot around the booths, you’ll be among the first to discover the new N’etc, opening Saturday in the former Stephanie’s space at 5005 France Ave. S. – standing alone after more than 20 years with Grethen House. Expect the same, refined assortment of high end shoes and accessories. New partner Veronica Clark, a stylist who has put in time at some of the best boutiques in town, including Grethen House, Bumbershute and Len Druskin, says there’s room to add more to the mix, including select apparel.

After more than 20 years together, Grethen House and Netc are splitting up. No need to pick sides – the separation is amicable. Netc is moving down the block at 50th & France, to the former Stephanie’s space near The Loft. Owner Nancy has a new partner as she starts contemplating scaling back her workload. They will open as Netc the first week of June with an expanded assortment of high-end shoes and accessories. Meanwhile, Grethen House is wasting no time filling the void with its own spin on shoes and accessories to complement the designer fashions that have made this boutique a destination for decades. From two proven vets like these, I say the more the merrier.

You want to think it's all logos and status – that expensive clothes aren't really any better, just pricier. But I unknowingly tried on a $930 dress and it was bliss. The white-with-black-polka dot Charles Chang Lima dress zipped up the back, but inside the bodice was a second, interior zipper to hold the cleavage in place. The lingerie straps adjusted. The length was perfect. When does that happen? Ever? The dress will be 30 percent off later this week during the spring sale at Grethen House, the store owner offered. It wouldn't help.
