Oscar & Belle store closing

Friday, June 11th, 2010

There’s nothing glamorous about running a store – even in a charmed neighborhood like Linden Hills; even selling darling high end baby apparel and bedding that’s organic to boot. Oscar & Belle plans to close its retail space by June 24 – after just a year of business. The local company is going back to focusing on what it does best: design and manufacturing. The line is sold at 75 boutiques nationwide and online. In a statement released today, owner Anna Gustafson said, “Our wholesale business is growing with some new opportunities on the horizon and I am unable to effectively do it all.” Gustafson and her husband are also expecting their first baby in August – and having one baby to pour all your time and energy into is more than enough.

Oscar & Belle is coming

Mentioned as a footnote to the news that Ensemble is closing (Sales/Specials for details) that a new store would be taking the space. Having talked to the owner of up and coming children's organic clothing line Oscar & Belle, I can tell you this sounds like an ideal fit for Linden Hills and a great addition to the Twin Cities shopping landscape. Sold mainly in boutiques on the coasts, the Minneapolis-based brand is ready to raise its profile. The shop will feature the full clothing collection (newborn to 5T) along with new additions like crib bedding and diaper bags. The style is simple and classic, the material is eco-friendly and it's all made right here in Minnesota. You won't have to wait long: the opening is scheduled for May 16. AliShops.com will have all the details.

Ensemble to close

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Linden Hills boutique Ensemble is bowing out of the retail biz. Owner Larissa Larson says the decision was based on family, not finances. Larson, who opened the store with her sister but has been running it herself the past couple of years, has decided to stay home with her little boy. “Ensemble has done extremely well, even during these tough economic times," Larson said. "We feel very lucky that this is a choice we can freely make.” Visit Sales/Specials for closing sale details.
This is the rare retail story that seems to have a happy ending. Word has it the Ensemble space, which is connected to Dunn Brothers, has already been leased by local organic children's clothing company Oscar & Belle, slated to open June 1. Stay tuned for more details.
