St. Paul on the Fringe

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Don’t be surprised to see a few extra bangles on the wrists of St. Paul shoppers next month: 50th & France accessories boutique Fringe plans to open a second location on Grand Avenue. The locally-owned shop, which offers fashion jewelry, scarves and other accessories at affordable prices, will take over the Saga Living space at 1055 Grand Ave. on June 15.

Hopkins can’t compete

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

No surprise here: Just four months after opening a second Fringe accessories shop at 50th & France, owner Andrea Rovner plans to close her original location in Hopkins . The old store's lack of ambiance was made even more obvious by the opening of the higher-profile, more polished store in Edina. And while inexpensive accessories seemed an unlikely fit for the notoriously posh 50th & France, it's proving to be a huge hit. (Even those with money get excited about a trendy $18 necklace!). Rovner says her Hopkins customers are flocking to Edina. The Hopkins Fringe store will close at the end of the year.

No longer on the fringe

Monday, April 20th, 2009

The former Melly space at 50th & France won't sit vacant for long. Hopkins accessories store Fringe plans to open a second location there on May 21. The focus will be the same: trendy accessories at affordable prices, but whereas the high end in Hopkins is $65, at 50th, a broader assortment will range from $15 to $150. This is Edina, after all. (I'm hoping they step up the ambiance a bit as well.)
